This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Wahoos will not be participating in league competition. Instead, the team is going to have non-mandatory conditioning practices on Monday, June 29, Wednesday, July 1, and Thursday, July 2 from 4-5 pm and from 5-6 pm.
We will be following the social distancing guidelines for 12 swimmers in a 6 lane pool, per this USA swimming document. Social distancing guidelines focus on no congregating before and after practice and spacing the swimmers out in the lanes during practice.
Space is limited due to the social distancing requirements. If interested, please register using this form. Contact Gary Buda with any questions regarding swim team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
About the West Laurel Wahoos Swim Team
The West Laurel Swim Team is an age-group competitive summer swim team that participates in the Prince-Mont Swim League (PMSL). The PMSL has eight summer divisions with 5 teams per division. Our swimmers have opportunities to compete in Saturday morning PMSL meets, practice B-meets (Wednesday evenings), Laurel Invitational Swim Meet, New Carrollton Relay Meet, and Knights of Columbus Mini-Meet (swimmers 10 & under). In 2019, the Wahoos competed in the PMSL D division with the West Arundel Ducks, Westlake Village, Cheverly and Accokeek Swim Team. We also have many social events including ice cream after time trials, weekly Friday breakfasts, trips to water parks, and our closing awards picnic/pool-party. All active Club members, ages 5-18 years, are invited to join the team. For safety purposes swimmers must be able to swim a distance of 25 meters and tread water for 30 seconds in the deep end of the pool. Tests will be conducted by our coaches with no limit to the number of attempts. Many of our swimmers are members of local year round swim teams. They can give you great insight on how to continue throughout the year. Some winter options are listed below.
